Plans for the residency
I intend to take the end point of my MA programme as the starting point for the residency.
In October 2019 I removed the window installation of cellotape and carbon paper at the University of Derby. This will be videoed as documentation.
As part of this residency I would like to experiment with expanding this piece of work as follows; I would remove strips of sellotape and I will transfer these to slides and/or rolls of film. I would run the rolls of film through an 'old-fashioned' film projector which would create a film projection onto the wall.
I'm really excited to see how this would work as I am keen to expand the work through this kind of visual moving image. I also have audio and video recordings from the original installation and will have the same for the deinstallation of the work. I would like to experiment with incorporating audio with the film. These would be major developments in my practice and I would be able to put the studio space to good use. I envisage that I will spend the first two weeks researching and experimenting as described and the final two weeks refining and ensuring I have exhibition ready artwork.

Artist Statement
In my practice I create a site-specific intervention using a simple process and inexpensive materials; cellotape and carbon paper. The space, walls and/or other surfaces determine the work created. I modify the process to fit the space.
The repetitive almost ritualistic process is as follows; I remove strips of cellotape from a dispenser in a rhythmic and repetitive manner and adhere to carbon paper, I rip the cellotape from the carbon paper and place it directly onto an interior wall, surface or window. The process is repeated innumerable times which creates a large-scale installation.
The remnants of the used carbon paper become a genuine non-predetermined, simultaneous by-product of the process. Words and concepts that I associate with the remnants are stripped back, fragile, trace, time, patterns, archival and mark-making.
I video and live stream the performative act on social media in order to document the process.
Research into site-specificity and working in situ has led me to take my existing process and materials into public and private spaces. In the latter part of the MA programme I have developed my practice in these new areas. I intend to continue investigating ‘my new studio’ in the real world.

Started the East Midland Graduate Residency with Artcore Derby this week. The residency is taking place in the gallery area of the new premises on Albert Street, Derby.
So far we have had presentations from all of the artists involved. Each artist talked about their practice and their plans for the residency.
This was followed by seminar on fundraising and application processes by the residency coordinator David Gilbert.
The artists are now settling into the studio space. Bit messy!!
