The online exhibition of In Memoriam launches Monday 22 February at 4pm, and the silent auction opens Friday 26 February at 4pm and closes Friday 5 March.
In 2020, we initiated In Our Thoughts, a year-long participatory project supported by mental health charity MIND, which supported communities in response to the impact of the global pandemic. As part of this programme, we launched an open-call project In Memoriam, inviting those based in Derby and Derbyshire to produce a postcard sized artwork to be exhibited online and auctioned. The aim was to provide a platform that not only supported local makers and artists, but also created a space that brought people together as a community with shared experiences of the pandemic.
In Memoriam celebrates many forms of creativity, including photography, painting, and collage. Many of the artists involved in the project were inspired by their daily routine and personal experience of the pandemic to produce their artwork.
On the launch of the exhibition, there will be an opportunity to view the artworks and register your interest to bid ready for the silent auction which opens Friday 26 February at 4pm via Zoom and closes Friday 5 March. Proceeds of the silent auction will be shared between the contributing artists and Artcore’s wider In Our Thoughts project. After the silent auction opening, contributing Artist Nick Hersey will perform a live music set for people to enjoy remotely.
