Otherlings – Artist talk with Steve Baker

Steve Baker’s talk to coincide with the opening of Artcore’s Otherings exhibition will discuss the development of his art practice over the past decade.  It will consider his work in the context of his writings on contemporary art, which have focused on artists who engage seriously with questions of animal life.  The talk will touch on recent discussions of contemporaneity and of ethically-engaged representation, and he will conclude by outlining his role in the early stages of a collaborative art project on white storks in contemporary urban environments.  Baker is Professor of Research for Art and Media at the University of Derby, and is part of the new animal research group within the University’s Digital and Material Artistic Research Centre.
