Sue Wharton Artist
I am a lover of colour, texture and pattern and I see these things all around me in abundance in the natural world. Sometimes I play with these elements in purely abstract form but there is always a natural phenomenon underlying my abstract art such as flowing water, fire, natural landscapes or even influences from space such as nebulae and galaxies. When I'm not painting abstracts I love to paint animals. Animals have such a diverse range of shapes, colours, textures, patterns, characters and behaviours. They are such fascinating creatures. As part of my interest in animal painting I have also diversified into doing pet portraits by commission, details of this service are available on my website, www.suewhartonartist.com I paint with an unusual medium: encaustic wax. This is a very old technique first used by the Ancient Egyptians and the Romans. The wax is a blend of beeswax and damar resin, coloured with pigments. It can be applied with a range of heated implements such as an iron, heated stylus or it can be melted and applied with a paint brush and fused and blended insitu with a heatgun or blowtorch. However it is applied the finish is both beautiful and enduring.
