" Inspiration can come from anywhere, a single word, a small figurine in a museum, a journey somewhere or even a trip to the shops. " Trained as an illustrator Nicki Dennett obsessively keeps a sketchbook with her at all times to record images and make notes on life around her. Nicki’s prints usually run in sequences or bodies of work that relate to each other. A love of walking in the Derbyshire peak district led to a solo exhibition of work at Deda based on the Derbyshire landscape, the residency at Artcore resulted in a body of work relating to the celebration of Indian Independence and recently she has been working on a series of ten images based around her own family history and the family connection with Friargate Goods Yard. The different projects all retain a personal style of work. Layering imagery to reveal a sense of narrative and using a variety of printmaking processes that allow the use of sketches, photography and mark-making give visual depth and interest to her work.
