Over the last 5 years, Abbie Sunter, has been developing a body of work that explores the juxtaposition of power and strength alongside the femininity of beauty and sexuality. Her work centres on how women are seen in the world, particularly as objects of desire and beauty and aims to challenge the viewer on their perception of what is feminine. Drawing heavily on the influences of nature and religious iconography, she has recently focused on creating a series of skulls that represent the strength of the empowered female and the way in which that strength can be perceived. These works explore the the idea of creating feminine icons of worship, designed to empower the modern woman but through the use of natural icons, often recognised throughout cultures of the world.
